Explanation of Solution

Given info:

Bulk Modulus of water, B = 2×109 N/m2 ,

Density of water, ρ = 1000 kg/m3 ,

Distance,  d = 2×L ,

Time take to return, t = 3 s .

Formula used:

The expression for the speed of water wave v ,

  v = Bulk modulus of waterDensity of water=Bρ .......equation (1)

Speed is also expression as:

  v = distancetime= 2×Lt   ...equation (2)

Here, L is distance for echo.

Calculation:

Substitute the given values of bulk modulus and Density in the equation (1) to get the value of velocity,

   v = 2×1091000 = 1414.21 m/s

Substitute the value of v in the equation (2) to get the value of L .

  v = distancetime2×LtL= v×t2 = 3×1414.212 = 2.1×103 m

Conclusion:

Thus, the depth of the ocean at which echo of the wave reflected from the ocean is 2.1×103m .
