Answer to Problem 2SSC

A substance is a simply a matter having specific properties and distinct composition. Iron, sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3, baking soda), sucrose (pure sugar), sodium chloride (table salt), sulfur, tin, diamond, etc. are examples of substances.

Explanation of Solution

A substance may be illustrated as any material with a specific chemical composition. The substances which are free from any kind of mixture and comprise only a single type of particle/element are clear/pure substances. For example, sodium chloride (table salt), tin, iron, sucrose (pure sugar), sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), etc.

Iron:  Iron is an element. It symbolizes by ‘Fe’. The atomic number of iron is 26. It is the most well-known chemical element on earth. It is a vital element or mineral for plants and humans.

Iron is as essential element for the production of blood in humans or animals. Transport oxygen (O) in the blood to each cell in the body through hemoglobin is the primary function of iron.

Iron is a significant micronutrient for plants. In the presence of iron, synthesis of chlorophyll takes place in plants Iron plays a meaningful role in several biochemical and physiological pathways in the plants.

Sodium chloride:  It also called table salt. It has a similar and certain composition that’s why it is acknowledged as a pure substance. The chemical formula is NaCl.

Sodium chloride helps to absorb and carry vital nutrients in the human body. It also aids to maintain blood pressure.

Conclusion

A substance is a pure element or compound or matter which has specific properties and distinct composition. Iron, sodium bicarbonate (NaHCO3, baking soda), sucrose (pure sugar), sodium chloride (table salt), sulfur, tin, diamond, etc. are examples of substances.
