Concept explainers
Interpretation: The term substance and chemistry needs to be defined.
Concept introduction: Writing a note on a topic says to write meaning and some important key points related to that topic.
Answer to Problem 25A
A substance is a simply pure matter which has specific properties and distinct composition.
Chemistry is included in everything, cooking and growing food, cleaning homes and bodies, launching a space shuttle, etc.
Explanation of Solution
A substance is a matter that includes only one sort of atom/molecule. Pure substances can be pure compounds. Pure substances can be pure elements. A clear substance has similar chemical properties. A substance may be illustrated as any material with a specific chemical composition. The substances which are free from any kind of mixture and comprise only a single type of particle/element are clear/pure substances. For example, sodium chloride (table salt), tin, iron, sucrose (pure sugar), sodium bicarbonate (baking soda), etc.
Chemistry is a branch of science. The study of matter’s structure, composition, properties is known as chemistry. The word ‘chemistry’ evolved from ‘alchemy’. It is the part of the physical sciences which help to describe and interpret the world. It is the science of atoms/molecules and their transformations. This subject of science includes every activity we do or around us. Chemistry is so fundamental. It plays a significant role in everyone’s lives. It is occasionally called "central science" because it links another science, such as geology, physics, biology, and environmental science. Also, this subject helps to gain knowledge about substance’s (matter) characteristics such as properties, a structure, a composition and excluding this, it teaches us about physical changes and chemical changes of substance.
A substance is a pure form of matter or element or compound. Chemistry plays a significant role in meeting human needs for health care products, food, and other materials aimed at improving and enhancing the quality of life.
