When two nitrogenous bases joined to each other through hydrogen bonds, the formation of a base pair (bp) unit occurs. Base pairs result in the formation of building blocks of the double helix of DNA and contribute to both DNA and RNA folded structure. Adenine always pairs with thymine and cytosine always pairs with guanine.
