Concept Introduction:

Addition of hydrogen halide to an unsaturated bond present in hydrocarbon is known as hydrohalogenation.  During hydrohalogenation, the unsaturated bond present is broken and a carbon‑hydrogen, carbon‑halogen bond is formed.  In case of unsymmetrical alkenes, Markovniov’s rule is used to predict the major product.
