Introduction:

The neurotransmitter, acetylcholine (Ach), is involved in muscle contraction as it is released by the presynaptic neuron and binds to receptors on the postsynaptic membrane. This opens the ion channels and generates an excitatory or inhibitory potential in the postsynaptic membrane. Ach is degraded by an enzyme called AchE (acetylcholinesterase), which is present in the synaptic cleft.
