Concept explainers
To identify the type of sampling design:
Answer to Problem 26PT3
(b) Stratified random sample
Explanation of Solution
Given information:
A large university to gauge an interest in a school wide recycling program by means of a questionnaire. The entire university divided into under graduate students, graduate students, faculty and staff and takes separate random sample from each group.
The above sampling design is known as Stratified sampling. This is because the entire University (Population) divided into 4 subgroups as mentioned above (known as Strata). Then from each strata a simple random sample is collected.
Whereas systematic sampling is based on the periodic interval i.e. samples from a large population are selected based on a certain interval. And convenient sampling is a
Non- probability sampling technique. Cluster sampling is probability sampling design in which population divided into clusters, a simple random sample of clusters taken. In simple random sampling there is a equal chance of being selecting the samples.
