Sensory adaptation in the olfactory and pain receptors.

Introduction:

Sensory adaptation is a process of response to stimuli received by sensory receptors. Underlying this adaptation, are the sensations of pain due to heat or smell due to bad odor. The response of olfactory receptors is generally phasic while, that of pain receptors is tonic. This helps the body to suitably respond to the environmental stimuli, in terms of fast adapting versus slow adapting.
