Tongue is a sensory organ that contains gustatory receptors determining the taste and the flavor of the food. The mouth contains five different types of taste cells present on the tongue which are salty, sweet, bitter, sour, and umami. Olfactory receptors (sense of smell) provide the perception of taste and flavor of the food.
