Escherichia coli is a bacterium which is normally present in human and animal intestine; this bacterium has some unique properties, which are needed to be known by the health care professionals. A special feature is the fact that this bacterium has the beneficial effect for human health, but also pathogenic strains, such as Escherichia coli O157: H7 causes diseases, for example, gastrointestinal colibacillosis, and life-threatening condition – hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS).
