Zach is entering his 10th grade year of high school. He played on the 9" grade football team last year, however, he really wants to play on the varsity team this year. He knows that if he is going to be competitive he must put on muscle mass during the summer. He convinces his parents to buy him protein powder so that he can start drinking 3 protein shakes a day. In addition he is also eating 100 grams of protein a day from various sources of food such as peanut butter, greek yogurt, grilled chicken, and hard-boiled eggs. The recommended amount of protein for a teenage boy is 50 grams. He is sure that with all this extra protein in his diet that he will gain muscle quickly. However, the summer is almost over and Zach still has not seen any gains in muscle mass. His mom takes him to the doctor to see if there is a medical reason for this. The doctor runs some tests and tells Zach that he has a rare disease that affects one of the organelles in his cells. 1. Based on the above information, hypothesize which organelle is not working correctly and explain why it could not be any of the other organelles of the cell.
