The Western Roman Empire fell in 476 CE when the Roman emperor Romulus Agustulus was deposed. The Eastern-half became the Byzantine Empire. The expansion of Christianity had led to a shift in power from emperors to the church. However, there were other reasons as well such as intellectual stagnation, economic troubles, and lack of military management for the downfall of the Roman Empire.
