Douglass' words. What resonates from the text "Narrative of the life of frederick douglas, an american slave"

Expert Solution
Introduction

Frederick Douglass was an American social reformer, abolitionist, orator, writer, and statesman who was born Frederick Augustus Washington Bailey in c. February 1817. He became a national leader of the abolitionist movement in Massachusetts and New York after escaping slavery in Maryland, becoming noted for his oratory and incisive antislavery writings. As a result, abolitionists at the time referred to him as a living counterexample to slaveholders' claims that slaves had the intellectual aptitude to act as self-sufficient American citizens. Northerners, likewise, found it difficult to comprehend that such a famous orator had formerly been a slave.
