In the figure A there are total 8 cells. The volume of each cell is (50×50×50)um3 and total volume of 8 cells = 8×(50×50×50)um3 = 1000000 um3 and surface area is high as there are more than 1 cells are present. Surface area of 1 cell = 6×(50×50) = 15000 um2. So, total surface area for 8 cells = (8×15000) = 120000 um2.
In the figure B the one big cell is present and the volume is (100×100×100)um3 = 1000000 um3 and surface area is low as only a single cell is present. The surface area is = 6×(100×100) = 60000 um2.
So, the surface are to volume ratio in case of figure A is (120000÷1000000)= 0.12
The surface area to volume ratio in case of figure B is (60000÷1000000) = 0.06
