This role play takes place in a large distribution warehouse. There are 240 employees available to work in the warehouse who are responsible for picking, packing, shipping, and tracking electronic devices that range from small hand-held devices to large LED television monitors. Employees use a variety of light to heavy machinery in order to prepare bulk packages, such as forklifts, packaging tools, ladders, and golf carts. Employees are required to lift the products when needed and are provided with safety footwear as part of the mandatory PPE requirements. There are three shifts running in the warehouse 24 hours per day, 7 days per week with 70 employees on each shift. The remaining employees who are not on a regular shift are available on a call-in basis due to the large number of absences due to workplace injuries and accidents. The most frequent injury is back related due to the need for employees to lift bulky, sometimes heavy products or equipment. Employees on the call-in list can expect to be called in at least five times per week for an 8-hour shift, resulting in full-time coverage for the warehouse. A one-day training session is provided to new warehouse employees as part of the orientation and on-boarding process. The training session includes a video on safe lifting, ladder safety, and equipment safety; online WHMIS training; and a three-hour lecture by the Health and Safety officer on procedures and safe handling practices. You are the new warehouse supervisor for this location. You have had extensive warehouse distribution experience both as a worker and as a supervisor with a number of different employers to date. You also have your Health and Safety credentials along with extensive experience as an employee representative on Joint Health and Safety committees in the past. From your perspective, the training program provided by this employer is dismal. You want to change the program completely and ensure that all employees are trained properly under your supervision. You are energetic, enthusiastic, and were hired for your experience in order to bring about much needed change to the work environment to this particular warehouse setting. You have asked to meet with the HR Practitioner to discuss implementation of a new training program. As you prepare for this meeting, outline five specific training-related improvements that you want to implement and include potential costs and savings to the organization as a result. At the end of your meeting, you want agreement from the HR Practitioner and a plan to proceed with a revised training program.   1) what behaviours or responses would be difficult to manage within a workplace setting?
