SUBPART - 1

  1. Why is broadcasting so important to international sports? Briefly explain the business model.

Sports broadcasting has been transformed by improvements in communications technologies by which billions of people all over the world are able to watch their favorite players/sports from far away. Media outlets cover sporting events like international games, tournaments, and tv shows, e.g.: Olympics, Cricket Tournaments, Asia Cup, Commonwealth games, and many more. Modern technology makes it possible for sports to be covered. It is also possible due to the involvement of sports professionals and journalists. Due to this advanced technology, any sport can be seen from any part of the world by anyone.

Business Model:

A huge amount of money is paid by television and media companies for the exclusive right to broadcast major sporting events live. The sale of broadcasting and media rights has become the primary source of income for the majority of sports organizations. The money helps in supporting major athletic events, renovating stadiums, and many other things. The broadcasters can invest in the pricey administrative and technological infrastructure necessary to broadcast sporting events to millions of fans across the world, thanks to the royalties they receive from selling their exclusive material to other media outlets. For e.g, we see that IPL has an official broadcaster Hotstar.
