In 1621, Nzinga was made the Portuguese ambassador by her brother, who failed to keep the Kingdom safe from Portuguese clutches. Nzinga got herself baptized and used religion as a political tool. From 1623 to 1636, she ruled as the governor of Luanda for the Portuguese.
