"Responsibility for Conflict", more specially the the idea of open dialogue in public spaces. As stated on page 13, Arnett defines a healthy public domain as such, "[…] a healthy public domain requires a responsibility to nourish the 'interspaces' that permit diverse persons and ideas to be heard and responded to in singular fashion" (Arnett, 13). The public domain is a space that brings diverse topics and ideas into conversation. The public domain, as described in the reading, becomes unfit for conversation and the sharing of ideas when the space is no longer accepting of differences and the tone changes to hostility. The denial of voice and vote, the main premise of public domain, creates a public space that is not conducive to the ideas of free speech.  Comment on: In recent years, college campuses have been brought to the forefront regarding public domain and freedom of speech. In the current polarized environment that has developed in terms of political views, hostility is at an all time high, compromising the open forum that guest speakers encourage. The idea is to allow for open conversation to occur in a manner that is respectable and accepting of all view points in order to generate ways of thinking. Students have a right to not only be heard but also introduced to new and conflicting ideas in order to broaden their thinking. The issues that has arisen with the increase in guest speakers is creating a public domain that is inclusive to new and differing ideas, creating open dialogue, and not arguing based on confirmation bias.
