Project Description Design and conceptualize an IoT solution to address the following use case: The Food Waste Tracking System (FWTS) To remain competitive in F&B industries services providers creates various kinds of packages, and food menu to entice customers. However, food waste is a big issue, not only in Singapore but also globally. Food waste is one of the biggest waste streams in Singapore and the amount of food waste generated has grown by around 20% over the last 10 years. Food waste accounted for about 11 per cent of the total waste generated in Singapore in 2023. The total amount of food waste generated in 2023 was 755,000 tonnes. (Source) With the growing concerns and the environmental impact, food chain operators are trying to create innovative ideas to reduce waste, but same time remain competitive in their services. One category of the F&B services they are looking to optimise is the Buffet Package, which are high- volume, low-cost packages. One of the areas which can help to improve their services is to track type of food waste in their buffet menu, so they know the behaviour of their customers, and work back the production of certain type of dishes or remove others. They can also segregate the type of food- in case the left over can be distributed to people in need within the guidelines of NEA and AVA. While there are many potential solutions available in the market for a standard workflow, the challenges of building a be-spoke, and a cost-effective solution still exist as operational workflow can vary from company to company. This project identifies and propose a food waste tracking system (FWTS), which shall leverage the best of technologies available to solve the problem. The FWTS focusses on tracking the food waste within a city; in this case Singapore based F&B chain with existing multiple facility, and their plans to expand to other countries in the region. Problem Definition: 1.1. Define FOUR (4) operational problems, describing why a FWTS solution would be relevant for the F&B outlets in their operations. (Provide a table, and a description) 1.2. Quantify and estimate the impact of the four problems in Question (1.1) on the services provided by the organization or to end customer. Propose an assessment methodology to prioritize them from high to low in the ranking. (Provide a table, and a description)
