Capstone Project 4: Deploy a Cloud Network

Note 16

Websites, applications, public cloud platforms, and related account options change often. While the instructions given in these projects were accurate at the time of writing, you might need to adjust the steps or options according to later changes.

Note to Instructors and Students: A rubric is provided for evaluating student performance on these projects. Please see Appendix D.

Estimated time:

45 minutes

Objectives:

Objective 1.4: Given a scenario, analyze the solution design in support of the business requirements.

Resources:

  • Public cloud account (such as AWS, Azure, or GCP)
  • Drawing app, such as Visio or app.diagrams.net
  • Internet access

Context:

You've now learned how to deploy compute and networking resources in the cloud. In this Capstone, you will choose a cloud platform and create resources for a cloud deployment. Complete the following steps:

  1. Sign into your chosen cloud platform. Using the tools and services available to you in this platform, create resources needed for the following cloud deployment:
  2. One VPC or VNet
  3. Two subnets in the VPC or VNet using the CIDR blocks 172.16.0.0/24 and 172.16.1.0/24.
  4. A VM instance in each subnet with access to the Internet

Consider the order of steps you should take to create these resources and think about which resources require which configurations to meet the deployment requirements (for example, what CIDR block should be assigned to your VPC or VNet, if any?).

  1. Use a drawing app, such as Visio or app.diagrams.net, to draw the VPC or VNet and its resources that you created in this project, showing logical connections and relative position of each resource.
  2. When your deployment is complete and fully running, take screenshots to document the configurations required in Step 1.
  3. Delete all the resources you created in this project. Check through your account to confirm that all related resources have been deleted.

Note 17

Depending on the status of your account and the selections you made during this project, the resources you created can deplete your credits or accrue charges. Double-check to make sure you've terminated all resources you created in this project.
