A large number of canoes arrived on the shores of the islands that make up modern-day Hawaii long back. These individuals were the islands' initial inhabitants, and many others eventually immigrated there. These people carried their own customs with them and over time produced new ones. Kamehameha was crowned as Hawaii's initial ruler in the year 1810. Up until the years of 1880s, the islands were still ruled by kings. Hawaii was admitted as a territory of the United States in the year 1898. In the year 1959, it was declared the fiftieth state.
