In 1982, Howard Schultz became a member of the Starbucks staff. When he was in Italy on a business trip, he went to Milan's famed espresso cafés. Howard Schultz was struck by their popularity and culture, and he believes they have great potential in Seattle. In the late 1980s and early 1990s, Starbucks began to branch out outside the city limits of Seattle. The Starbucks Coffee Company is presently the world's biggest coffeehouse. It was then that they began selling freshly roasted, premium coffee beans, along with roasting equipment. In addition to the Western and Asian nations, Starbucks has a shop in 61 countries.
