Lockdowns have not helped us return to normalcy; they have forced us to choose between public health and economic growth. It has been debated since the start about whether national lockdowns will force us to “choose between public health and the economy.” This idea relies on a logical fallacy known as a false dilemma. When there is at least one additional logically valid option, this logical fallacy would assume an either/or situation. Returning to normalcy, most of us would agree that the time post-COVID-19 has been very challenging, and wanting to return to a typical life is understandable. To return to normal, it is not a good idea to infect others as quickly as possible. Globally, lockdowns have helped flatten the spread curve of this virus across multiple countries. Despite this, the economy has been severely damaged by it. The purpose of intentionally exposing the world's population will waste lives and create a false sense of security. We may need to work together to rebuild our economies if we can help flatten the curve as a nation. As a result, we could prevent the spread of the disease without sacrificing human lives. As a type of infection control, social distance, quarantining, and self-isolation should be practiced whenever ill, as they help decrease the spread of infection and allow communities to reopen. Provide a short summary and an assessment of the author’s claims, values, assumptions, cognitive biases, and/or logical fallacies discerned. In assessing the arguments, including whether the authors provide supporting evidence, and, if so, is it credible evidence?
