![**How do you identify an inhibitory neuron?**
Inhibitory neurons can be identified by their unique properties and functions. These neurons release neurotransmitters that decrease the likelihood of the firing action potential in the receiving neuron. Key inhibitory neurotransmitters include gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and glycine.
To identify an inhibitory neuron, scientists typically look for specific markers, proteins unique to these neurons, using techniques like immunohistochemistry. Additionally, the morphology of these neurons, such as their dendritic structures, can provide clues to their identity.
On the educational website, this section could provide insights into laboratory techniques like electrophysiology that help characterize the inhibitory functions and synaptic connections of these neurons.

Step 1
The neuron can be defined as the basic unit of the brain and it is the type of specialized cell that is designed to transmit information to other nerve cells, muscle, or gland cells.
On the basis of their diversity as well as its functions they performed in different parts of the nervous system, they are classified on the basis of their shape, size, and electrochemical properties.
There are three types of neurons:
- Sensory neurons.-They respond to stimuli such as touch, sound, or light that affects the cells of the sensory organs, as well as it sends signals to the spinal cord or brain.
- Motor neurons: can be defined as they receive signals from the brain and spinal cord to regulate everything from muscle contractions.
- Interneurons: can be defined as they connect neurons to other neurons within the same region of the brain or spinal cord. The group of connected neurons is called a neural circuit
