Tigris and Euphrates are ancient rivers located in the region of what was called as Mesopotamia.  Tigris originates in an area called 'Armenian Highlands' in the region of West Asia. It flows for around  2000 kilometers before merging into the Persian Gulf.  Euphrates is another important river that originates in Turkey and flows for an estimated length of 2800 kilometers. Euphrates also merges into the Persian Gulf and is said to be the longest river in the region of West Asia.  Mesopotamia refers to the land between these two rivers.
