a) What would be the effect on glycogen degradation if a mutation prevents the subunits of protein kinase A from dissociating? b) Effect of the substrate analog below on glycogen synthesis. CH3 OH HOL O -2 OPO3-² OH

After a meal, there is a surplus supply of glucose in the blood. this causes the pancreas to secrete the hormone called insulin. Insulin is a peptide hormone that helps increase the cellular uptake of glucose in two ways:
• binds to its intracellular receptor and signals the transport of glucose transporter (GLUT4) to the cell membrane to increase the rate of removal of glucose from the blood.
• it can activate an enzyme called glycogen synthase that polymerizes available glucose into the storage molecule glycogen.
During a period of starvation:
• the level of glucose in the blood falls since there is no carbohydrate present for the digestive system to replenish the amount of glucose consumed by the cell.
• glucose is replenished by the gluconeogenic pathway and by glycogenolysis.
• In response to low blood glucose, the pancreas secretes glucagon: the hormone that stimulates gluconeogenesis and glycogenolysis
