Christanity was introduced to North America after the colonization by Europe began in the 16th and 17th centuries. Spanish was the first Europeans to establish settlements on mainland North America and were the earliest Christians in the territory of the United States. Spanish were followers of the Roman Catholic Church whereas since the Thirteen colonies came into existence in 1776 population of Protestants increased in America. By the time of the American Revolution mostly all adopted the Protestant belief.
