The British had 13 colonies in America. During the 16th century, the British were involved in many wars with the other Imperial nations. The Seven Year's war had just ended which had left a huge crunch in the British treasury. Thus, to unburden its debt, the colonies in America imposed numerous taxes. A few of them were the Stamp Tax, the Townshend Tax, and Tea Tax. The colonists felt that they were unreasonably imposed so many taxes. They also felt that they were not represented properly in their own country and were treated like second-class citizens. As a result, in the 16th century, the colonies in America revolted against the Crown to become independent.
