Project 1 must be typed in an electronic document using MS Word, Google Docs, MS Excel, or PDF. Save your file as LastFirstName(s) Project 1, for example TjahjadiRayProject1 or TjahjadiRay-WhoJohnProject1 (for 2-person group) The following instructions, Items 1-11, are the tasks required to complete Project 1: 1. (Hands-on Research: 20 points) Collect residential real-estate data from 60 houses, with listing prices between $80,000 and $650,000, in California for the following variables: A. List price in US dollar B. House size in square feet C. Number of bedrooms D. Number of bathrooms E. Car garage (Yes if there is a car garage, and No if there is not a car garage) F. Swimming pool (Yes if there is a swimming pool, and No if there is not a swimming pool) G. 5-digit zip code You can collect the data from any online sources such as MLS.com, Zillow.com, Century21.com, remax.com, etc. If you try to make up the data based on your imagination, you will have a difficult time to complete this project. 2. (Chapter 1:15 points) Organize your collected data in a table as your dataset. The columns are the variable such as List Price and House Size. The rows are the collected values from #1. See the following table for a dataset example: List Price ($000) House Size, feet 2 Number of Bedroom Number of Bathroom Garage (Y or N) Swimming Pool (Y/N) 5-digit Zip Code 125,000 1,100 3 1 Y N 93712 375,500 1,800 4 2 Y N 93611 3. (Chapter 1: 5 points) Identify the qualitative variables in the dataset 4. (Chapter 1: 5 points) Identify the quantitative variables in the dataset. 5. (Chapter 1: 5 points) Identify the level of measurement for each of variables as nominal, ordinal, interval, or ratio level. 6. (Chapter 1) Select one qualitative variable from your dataset and create its: A. (5 points) frequency table B. (5 points) relative frequency table These two tables can be combined into one table 7. (Chapter 2) Using the answer from No.6, create: A. (5 points) a bar chart for the frequency table B. (5 points) a pie chart for the relative frequency table If you have problems creating either or both charts in MS Excel, please let me know one or two days before the project due date so I can help you. 8. (Chapter 2) Select one quantitative variable and create its: A. (20 points) Grouped frequency distribution First, compute the number of classes using 2k>n formula. Then, compute the class interval based on your dataset using i ≥ (H-L)/k where H is the highest value in your dataset; L is the lowest value in your dataset; k = 6. Watch the lecture video of “Descriptive Statistics: Frequency Distribution” to refresh your memory how to create a grouped FD in 5 steps.

(Extra credit: 1 point to 10 points depending on the quality of your explanation) Using your own word, explain your computed: A. Mean, median, and mode using your own words B. Range, variance, and standard deviation using your own word. 12. Upload your Project 1 using the Submit link of Project 1. There is an example of steps required to complete Project 1 using MS Excel. The example is using a different dataset and posted on Canvas Modules page. There are three worksheets in the Excel file—Questions 2-9A, 9B: Polygon, and Questions 10A-B.
