EL321 Critical Assignment 2
Task 1: Planning for Instruction
Teacher Candidate:
Course Number & CRN: EL321 (32968)
Respond to the prompts below by typing your responses following each prompt. Responses should be thorough, concise, and explicit. 1.
What is the grade level and topic(s) for the lesson? The grade level for this lesson is grade 3. 2.
What is the central focus of the lesson plan? Why is this important for your particular students? The central focus of this learning segment is for students to have the ability to identify the main idea of a picture when looking at a primary source.
3.
How does the central focus/objectives align with the state standards and/or Common Core standards you chose for your lesson plan? This central focus aligns with the state standard RI 3.2. Determine the main idea of a text; recount the key details and explain how they support the main idea [RI. 3.2]
4.
Explain the following:
a.
What prior knowledge do your students have about the central focus? The prior knowledge my students have about the central focus is knowing what a primary source and a main idea is. b.
How do your choices of instructional strategies, materials and the sequence of learning tasks reflect your students’ backgrounds, interests and needs? Be specific about how your knowledge of the students informs your lesson plan. Be specific about how this knowledge informed choices such as materials, grouping, texts, and other resources. I gave an interest inventory at the beginning of the year to be able to pull from throughout the remainder of the school year in order to choose the topics. 5.
Explain how you will engage the students and what higher order questions you might ask.
I will engage my students by using topics that interest them and provoke curiosity. Higher order questions that I might ask include: What is happening in this picture? Do you think this was from a long
time ago or more recent? Does anything look familiar to you in this picture? 6.
Explain how you will make connections across the curriculum to develop literacy or language arts skills. By using primary sources in social studies and incorporating it into ELA, the learners will be able to make connections on how they can use what they learn from one subject and apply it to another. 7.
What strategies and experiences will you use for students with special needs? In this case it would be your ELL students. Be specific about your choices and why they are appropriate. Differentiation of content will be done by placing students in predetermined groups based on previous formative assessments. Differentiation will also be done for English Language Learners by providing two main idea choices instead of four during the activity. Differentiation for students with ADD will occur by providing them with a checklist of things to be done
and a timer to ensure timely completion. Additional time will be provided for ELL and ADD students if needed.

8.
What assessments will you use to evaluate the students’ learning for this lesson? Be specific about what information you will glean from your chosen assessment and why it is appropriate. Once assessment from this lesson to evaluate students’ learning will be the graphic organizer done in their groups. Part 2. Refer to the Excel file Cereal data set to complete the following tasks. All results and explanations need to be reported within this Word document after each question. Make sure to use complete sentences when explaining your results. Your results should be formatted and edited.
Data Set: Cereals
The data set shows the name of different brands of cereals, the manufacturers, the total calories, proteins, sugar, fat, potassium, sodium, location of the shelf in the supermarket, etc. The amount of sugar, protein, etc., is measured in grams (g).
Exercise 1:
A. Construct a frequency distribution and a bar graph for the cereal manufactures (mfr). Include the relative frequencies. Edit and format the graph and include appropriate labels for the horizontal and vertical axes. Describe your findings in the context of the problem (Include which manufacturer produces the most cereals and least number of cereals in the cereal market).

Background information: Allison collected additional days of data to monitor the process.
Steps to monitor using the control charts:
Now monitor the process. An additional ten days of data have been collected, see table labeled “1st 10 Days of Monitoring Reservation Processing Time” in the Data File.
Develop Xbar and R charts for the 1st 10 days of monitoring. Plot the data for the 1st 10 days on the Xbar and R charts.
Is the process in control? If the control chart indicates an out-of-control process, note which days, the pattern, and whether it is the Xbar or R chart.
Now that we have set up the control charts using enough data from a stable process, the 30 days of data, we will monitor the process. While monitoring the process, what will we use as the upper control limit for the R (range) Chart to compare against our new range values? Enter your response to three decimal places. You do not need to include the units (minutes), ONLY the numeric value.

You are the new head of human resources for Flat Tire Rent- a-Car. You want to ensure that your staff are paid appropriately As such, you want to inspect the wage structure of the positions you are supervising and identify any problems (e.g., overpayment, underpayment ) Wage structures are made up of pay grades and, within them, step ranges (Fig. ) In this organization, one's pay grade is determined by their job title, and one's step range within the grade- is determined by their duration of employment with the organization The tables contained in this exercise provide several forms of pay data a pay grade table indicating job evaluation points and top of grade pay for each of four positions (Table )pay steps and promotion eligibility criteria Table 2), and a table of…

The weight is the number of credit hours taken and the grade value is each observation. This student earned 12 credit hours of A, 20 credit hours of B, 26 credit hours of C, and 2 credit hours of D. A grade of A is worth 4 points, B is worth 3 points, C is worth 2 points, D is worth 1 point, and F receives no points. A table is a helpful way to organize the weights and observations.wi,
