Clinical Field Experience B: Administering, Analyzing, and Applying Assessment Results Soleil Dixon-Widman June 28, 2023 SPD-531-O501
Part 1: Assessment and Interventions In Field Experience A, the RTI informal assessment categorizes students based on their correct answers. If a student scores 2 out of 5, they are placed in Tier 2 intervention for the butterfly life cycle topic. This means they will receive more teacher attention, reviewing past material and clarifying any confusion. Preferred activities like free time can be used as rewards to incentivize the student's success. Additionally, students can take content home to review with their parents, who can help explain it in ways that make sense to them. These informal assessments are essential in catching minor struggles before they become more significant. They also help teachers adjust their instruction for better understanding. While benchmark tests are necessary, more miniature reviews can help gauge student understanding and improve their overall performance. Part 2: Reflection Administering the assessment is a straightforward process. Wynter will answer a fixed number of questions, and we will use her results to determine her RTI-level group. During the assessment, I will maintain a positive attitude and focus on the number of correct answers Wynter gets, rather than the ones she gets wrong. I will encourage her to practice more and work towards a better understanding of the material. Based on her results, I expect that Wynter will benefit from intervention provided by the Tier 2 group. By reviewing the areas where he struggled, she can clear up any misconceptions
and solidify her understanding of the content. We can incentivize Wynter to succeed by offering rewards for her hard work, which will motivate her to focus and try her best. I believe that involving Wynter's parents in the intervention process will be beneficial because they know her best and may have unique insights on how to explain the material in a way that makes sense to her. By reviewing the content further, we can help Wynter remember the information and improve her comprehension. These findings have shown me the importance of informal assessments in the classroom. While benchmark tests are important, it is also crucial to use smaller assessments along the way to catch minor struggles before they become larger. These assessments also help us gauge how well our students are understanding the material, allowing us to adjust our instruction accordingly.
