Wk2 Discussion What insights did you gain from the activity in terms of your identities and aspects of power and privilege? The ADDRESSING-GSA Self-Assessment has some significant insights. The overall purpose of this assessment was to help others recognize their own cultural influences and beliefs and self-reflect on how their own classification in dominant groups helps them become aware of how their own ideologies and world views influence their own experiences regarding minorities that differ from them (Hays, 2016). The assessment indicated that in many of the characteristics I was considered neutral. The assessment shows us that individuals can be dominant or non-dominant in certain areas in the cultural characteristics assessment. It showed that my race and religion was most important to me. In what ways do you envision your diverse identities and associated power, privilege, or oppression influencing the social worker–client relationship? Provide an example. Realizing that my understanding and interpretation of a client's condition may be influenced by my cultural background, personal experiences, and prejudices is an important realization (Marsiglia et al., 2021). As a social worker, in order to do my duties effectively, I must avoid bias, work with clients from all cultural backgrounds without identifying with their identities, and anticipate their power and privilege as well as their possible reactions to my concerns.
