Cultural Practice Identification (5 points) Identify one cultural practice from your own heritage or within a culture you are familiar with. What is this practice? What is the historical significance? A cultural practice that I know of in my family is going to midnight mass every year on Christmas Eve. We have done it ever since i can remember growing up me or my brother would be serving or in the choir and my grandparents would come and we’d all bring in christmas together as a family and go to sleep in the same house and celebrate together in the morning. 2. Change and Adaptation (5 points) How has this practice changed or adapted over time whether due to social change or modern influences? Provide one example of how it has changed and or adapted. This practice has changed over time as me and my brother have grown up and we have lost our grandparents, which dramatically changed holidays for us. We still go to mass at midnight but just me, my mom and my dad we celebrate in florida now and my brother is in new york making his own traditions with his long time girlfriend. 3. Enculturation Role (5 points) In what ways does this practice demonstrate enculturation? How is it shared and learned? In what ways does it contribute to the enculturation of individuals or a group? This practice demonstrates enculturation due to it starting at a young age and growing with us helped shape us. 4. Preservation Strategies (5 points) Suggest one or more strategies that could be employed to ensure the continuation of this practice for future generations. Establish workshops or fairs to help kids learn about their heritage from a young age so they can have it grow with them and they can learn and share their beliefs and pass them along to others.
