2 Welcome to Bright Horizons Exceptional and Special Needs Approach A child with exceptional and or special needs means to me a child who may require extra help due to medical, emotional or a learning delay. As we know, every child is different and has different learning methods that work best for them. My job is to ensure each individual child’s needs are met daily. As challenges may arise, I will calmly approach situations with an open mind role modeling for them what task it is we are attempting to complete. I will ensure to have alternative activities, tools, and methods to be able to help your child achieve their goals and succeed the best way they can. Meet your educator! Hi! My name is Ms. Claire, I am the preschool teacher I have been working in the early childhood education field for 10 years and have experience of working with children with special needs for 8 years. I provide a safe and fun inclusive and diverse learning environment allowing your children to feel welcomed and at home. Location : 1234 Wisemand Blvd Hours of Operation : 6:00am – 7:00pm Contact Info : clairissa.almanza@gmail.com 210-789-4564 (mobile) 210-586-2273(work) Meaningful Relationships There is a significance in getting involved with your child’s education and step one is being on the same page with their educator. I am more than happy to get to know you more whether it’s small chats during drop off or pick up time, parent teacher conferences are also available at your request. You can reach out to me via email or phone call to set up meetings in person or through zoom. I also host monthly after hours events such as game nights or arts and crafts nights in the classroom where you and your family are welcome to come in ang hang out with peers in your child’s room as well as myself to get to know each other and create a positive environment and relationships. Coping with Stress in the Classroom In my classroom I have created a soft and quiet thinking area. This environment contains a mirror on the wall, a basket of books, emotional stones, and puppets. All these tools are great communicating methods with children who can become overwhelmed or stressed-out. I like to use the materials in the area as small one on one activities with the children. For example, using the emotion stones allows the child to pick the emotion equivalent to what they are feeling, we will then discuss the emotion chose and use the mirror to make the expression of the emotion on our faces. According to their development we can also discuss why the child feels the way they do.
