1. a. Affirmative action is defined as a set of procedures designed to; eliminate unlawful discrimination among applicants, remedy the results of such prior discrimination, and prevent such discrimination in the future. Applicants may be seeking admission to an educational program or looking for professional employment. President Kennedy issued an executive order in 1961 which mandated government contractors "to take affirmative action to ensure that applicants and employees are treated equally regardless of their race, creed, color, or national origin" to ensure that applicants are hired and employees are treated equally during employment. During the Johnson Administration, President Lyndon B. Johnson issued Executive Order 11,246, which required government contractors and subcontractors to expand minority employment opportunities. A separate office has been established in the Department of Labor to administrate the order, titled the Office of Federal Contract Compliance (OFCC). 2. a. Affirmative action does help to respect the diversity of the public. One thing that affirmative action helps is by helping college students how it helps them is by prioritizing diversity benefits students of all races. (Maxwell & Garcia, 2019) Diversity on college campuses enhances the educational experiences of students of all backgrounds. Evidence gathered by the Century Foundation suggests that racially integrated classrooms can reduce students’ racial bias, improve satisfaction and intellectual self-confidence, and enhance leadership skills (Maxwell & Garcia, 2019) In addition, these benefits may translate into
improved economic outcomes, as well as preparing students for work in a global economy that is diverse and diverse, resulting in increased team productivity, effectiveness, and creativity. Another way this helps diversity is that Affirmative action helps promote social mobility in school and out in public. (Maxwell & Garcia, 2019) Affirmative action can help to level the playing field by ensuring all students—regardless of wealth, privilege, or background—have a chance to benefit from the advantages selective colleges provide (Maxwell & Garcia, 2019.) This can also help the public with jobs grouped and other things we do in our daily life. 3. a. (Affirmative action, n.d.)Affirmative Action is a program of positive action, undertaken with conviction and effort to overcome the present effects of past practices, policies, or barriers to equal employment opportunity and to achieve the full and fair participation of women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities found to be underutilized in the workforce based on availability (Affirmative action, n.d.) Women, minorities, and individuals with disabilities are encouraged to participate fully and fairly in the force by overcoming the current effects of past policies, practices, and barriers. Opportunities like these are positive as they provide a variety of benefits and create an accurate reflection of the demographics of the qualified available workforce AA meets this positive goal as in today's society, there are different Because they work in groups, minorities and women are rarely discriminated against at their workplaces. 4.

a. Affirmative action does have a few downsides, one of them being that it promotes discrimination in reverse. If our goal is to eliminate discrimination, then promoting discrimination is not the way to achieve our goal. Additionally, it perpetuates stereotypes when a program exists that allows a student or employee to gain employment in a school or workplace, thereby promoting minority-based stereotypes. (Gaille, 2017) It changes accountability standards. Equality means giving everyone the same fair chance at the beginning of a journey. Instead of focusing on socioeconomic issues, we can shift our focus toward creating better educational opportunities in every neighborhood in the US (Gaille, 2017.) Lastly Third, affirmative action diminishes the value of the success of minority and marginalized groups. Minority and marginalized groups hold great significance, vitality, and pivotal importance in their careers, so giving them free lunches or getting their attention lessens the value of their career achievements. Their accomplishments should rather be based on merit and competence. 5. a. At the moment, I think affirmative action can have some positive effects in the workplace, but can also wreak havoc on building meaningful relationships between co-workers. It's a great idea to educate both employers and employees on reasons for marginalization and discrimination, as that will help them disregard cultural and societal bias. People who are educated about the effects of marginalization and discrimination are much more likely to ignore them. The other is that they must be set up to focus on the individual's merits or achievements rather than his or her race or gender. In the promotion of work
opportunities and career development, the best policies take merit and competence into account.
