Common Assignment Part I: Organizational Engagement Angela Comfort Graduate School of Social Service, Fordham University SWGS 6320: Social Work Practice with Organizations and Communities Dr. Christopher Curtis 9/10/23 1
ORGANIZATIONAL ENGAGEMENT Impact on Potential Employees The Center for Child Counseling is a non-profit organization that provides mental health services for children and families. The organizations mission is building the foundation for playful, healthy, and hopeful living for children, families, and communities (Center for Child Counseling, 2023). The website also provides the agency vision of healthy, resilient children and families through ACEs-aware and trauma- informed communities. The Center for Child Counseling provides education and prevention services, early intervention services, parent support groups, and has partnered with the Palm Beach County school system to provide mental health services in childcare centers, schools, and shelters. The agency website provides a significant amount of information including the mission, the history of the organization, the statistics for the previous year of children and families who have received services through the organization, events and news, training, resources, and the programs offered. I found the website to be user friendly with easy navigation for potential clients and potential employees. The organization has an active digital presence through multiple social media platforms. I found the most impactful thing about the digital presence is the access to information and resources that the agency provides on all of the platforms. The website was easy to use and although there is a lot of information, each page engages you through the use of videos, downloads, and e- brochures. I liked that the organization is active in posting on all of the social media platforms and that the posts included educational information from new studies, current events news articles from across the nation, and local community events from the agency and other local agencies in the county. 2
ORGANIZATIONAL ENGAGEMENT Impact of Digital Presence I believe the organizations overall digital presence would make a positive impression on a current employee, specifically a sense of pride in working for this agency. As a current intern I have directed parents of my clients to the website to look at the many resources and videos provided, as well as keep up to date on events that they may attend. For prospective clients the digital presence may provide reassurance in their choice of agency. This may come from the user-friendly platform of the website, the easy to find and submit an inquiry form, the clear explanation of services, as well as the active presence on social media. The social media presence sends a message that the agency is up to date on current events and is active and engaged with the local community. The Center for Child Counseling’s digital presence may leave a positive impression on current clients and aid in feeling connected and supported. The up-to-date information on new class sessions keeps current clients engaged with potential additional supports, and the social media promotes upcoming trainings for parents and caregivers many of which are free of charge. There is also a section to complete an anonymous feedback survey, nominate staff for a recognition of excellence, or email to give feedback. This section gives current or past clients a place to have their voices heard. When reviewing the website, potential funders will see the clear mission and vision of the Center for Child Counseling. Since the mission is not easily measured, funders are able to view other factors such as the Community Impact Report, Funding and Corporate Partners, a list of Donors, and the past eight annual impact reports which include the statement of financial activities for each year. This is important to have access to because goals that are not easily measured may be better appraised using other factors (Sawhill & Williamson, 2001). There is a page specifically dedicated to the 3

ORGANIZATIONAL ENGAGEMENT Vision which includes an outline of the organizations strategic plan through 2024 which includes five focus areas and detailed objectives. For both potential and current funders, I believe the access to this information, as well as the active digital presence, will leave a positive impact and encourage funders to either support or continue to support the agency. Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion An important characteristic of an empowerment-oriented organization is the ability to bridge cultural, ethnic, gender and other barriers to successfully deliver services (Hardina, 2005). The website showcases a diverse range of stakeholders and the language used is inclusive and non-discriminatory. It is evident that the organization has an effective empowerment-oriented approach in providing services and represents the community it serves in both its online presence and broader activities. Implications of Assessment The assessment reflects the positive effects of a sufficient digital presence on clients, employees, and funders. Implications of a transparent and inclusive online presence reflects to potential employees, clients, and funders that the organization values their contributions and well-being. Responsive communication and engagement can build trust and loyalty, leading to increased business or support. Overall, the digital presence demonstrates a commitment to diversity, equity, and the well-being of the community. Recommendations I am impressed with the Center for Child Counseling’s online presence and use of their website and social media to spread awareness and access to information. The only recommendation that I would have would be to utilize social media in a way that prompts 4
ORGANIZATIONAL ENGAGEMENT people to engage with the posts through comments, polls, or sharing. As of now the agency does a great job providing information but there is not much engagement on each post. Engagement can lead to these important resources being spread even further. 5
