Week 1 Seminar Group Discussion Questions: 1. What are paradigms and how does this impact how we conduct research? What is the relationship between paradigms, theories and concepts? Paradigms are different ways of viewing things that yield different explanations. They all are things that came from different perspectives and lead to different results. 2. Positivism vs. Interpretivism: Explain the theoretical differences between the two epistemological traditions. Positivism is quantitative and it is about facts and things that are true and there is no place to argue about them, while interpretivism is qualitative and it’s about discovering different perspectives on reality and facts. 3. Identify some of the practices and theoretical assumptions of the scientific method. What are their strengths and weaknesses? Scientific methods make hypotheses and start working on proving if they are right or wrong. They help in discovering new concepts and facts, but they can be inaccurate or not true. 4. Interpretivism: Why is this research tradition so interested in meaningful interaction? To gain an in-depth understanding of how things are the way they are. 5. “All research originates from some view of reality, which means that there are different ways of gaining an understanding of some aspects of the world and different ways of confirming our understanding.” Discussion what is meant by this particular quote, and how would this impact you when conducting research. It means that research was done by different people who view things differently and worked on explaining facts from their point of view. This can help me know that I should always think outside the box and try to look up and understand things from different perspectives to have the best results when I do my research.
