The multicultural existence of the modern-day Canada is captured in the history of colonization. Contemporary Canada is described by conflated identities (Brosseau & Dewing, 2018). However, the effect of Canada’s history of colonization is reflected in the inequalities that describe housing as a social sector. As an attempt to address the continuity of inequality, the multicultural policy of 1971 was established in a bid to create inclusion and pluralism in various social sectors, such as housing, where the inequalities were evident. This research inquiry examines the various aspects that describe the multicultural policy's effect in alienating exclusion in housing. The above is demonstrated policy is described in its resultant effort to address anti-discrimination laws, putting up affordable housing initiatives, language accessibility, culturally sensitive support services, and community engagement. The above will guide the inquiry in an analytical view of how their success demonstrates the commitment by the multicultural policy applied to housing to foster an inclusive society where individuals from diverse cultural backgrounds have equitable access to housing opportunities. The need for a multicultural policy reflects the continuity of inequality and the ripple effect of Canada’s history in orienting contemporary Canadians. The Canadian multiculturalism policy recognizes the importance of cultural diversity. The core principles of challenging inequality and fostering inclusion aim to create an inclusive society where individuals from all backgrounds can participate fully (Hyman et al., 2011). In the context of housing, the policy emphasizes the need for fair and equal treatment, non-discrimination, and accessible housing options that cater to the diverse needs of cultural communities. This paper will discuss the successes of the multicultural policy as applied to housing by placing the current housing statistics against the post-colonial Canada housing data. The inquiry will equally consider
existing challenges in realizing inclusivity in housing, such as limited access to resources and higher poverty rates, which can impact their housing opportunities and experiences.
