1 When working with families, the way things need to be done is different sometimes. When a person is around their family, depending on the dynamics of the family, if that person feels safe and comfortable, you will see a different side of them. With family assessments, you have to take in the different behaviors and personalities that are happening around you. Unless organized asking questions can have multiple people answering at once. With the dynamics of a family, you often can see if someone feels comfortable or safe around their family. You can see who does most of the talking, and if they give others a chance to talk or do they control the narrative and conversations. You can see who is stand offish and may have anxiety. When a family gets together, sometimes the client will be more silent than usual, if they are distracted or feel uncomfortable. Now with social works and their own families. Sometimes people forget that with different cultures come different family dynamics, even in the same culture there is different ones. There is Patriarch, Matriarch, there is healthy dynamics and then there is some where it is clearly unsafe. With that there is also different parenting styles! Recently "Gentle" Parenting has become the popular way to parent. Gentle parenting is not letting your child do what ever they want, it is just approaching them differently than say authoritarian. With gentle parenting there is less "Kids should be seen not heard" and more "You have your own emotions lets talk about them. " I think social works have to remember that not all families are made up like theirs.
