1 Video: An Age for Justice - Confronting Elder Abuse in America Student: Professor: Course: Date:

2 The video displays diverse forms of abuse that the elders went through in the hands of the people that were so close to them. Most of the elderly people in the video stated that they were not expecting such kind of maltreatment from people they thought would have been on the frontline to protect them. Some of the form of elder abuse that are evident in the video include financial abuse, neglect and verbal and physical abuse. 1 Financial abuse is seen when Wilson Smith was taken advantage of his age by a lady when he was on a trip and opened several accounts on his name. The lady then stole about $750,000 from Wilson Smith. 2 The cases of people taking advantage of elderly and stealing from them are very common. This is a form of abuse is sometimes not taken seriously. Another example of this abuse from the video is where a Lee’s caregiver used his credit card to buy shares, jewelries and even book trips without him knowing. Neglect, verbal and physical abuse are also forms of elder abuse that originates from the people they hold dearly. For instance, in the video, Vicki was neglected by his grandchildren even after allowing them into her home together with their father when he was broke. This made Vicki to feel insecure to the extent of putting a security door for her bedroom. This abuse did not only torture her physically but it also had an impact on her mental well-being, considering her age. Betty Beckles on the other hand was abused verbal and physically by her own daughter multiple times. From the video, it is clear that she was emotional when narrating how her own daughter could abuse and sometimes beat her.
