Hofstede has six dimensions that define one’s culture. The dimension that I am choosing to talk about is masculinity and femininity. I chose this dimension because it is one that I have strong opinions about. Masculinity refers to the stereotype that all men are stronger than woman and that men should be paid more than woman for doing the same job. I am in the United States, and according to the map we are in the 40-50 range. This means that we are just as feminine as we are masculine, but I disagree. I believe that a long time ago we were more masculine, but now we are geared more towards femininity. Men tend to do harder jobs because they tend to be stronger than woman. Most jobs will pay woman the same amount for doing the same job as men. Some jobs will not though, like landscaping jobs. In landscaping, men usually do the hard work and woman sit on the mowers, and because of this woman do get paid less (Hofstede, n.d.). Like I stated in the previous question, masculinity and femininity can influence attitudes toward a service. A lot of women choose to go towards the easier jobs, but they are still wanting to same pay. An example of this could be the fast-food restaurant that my boyfriend currently works at. This restaurant has more men workers than female ones. When it comes to running the grill, they usually only hire men for that position. Woman usually only get hired for the cashier positions. After the restaurant hires people for these roles, they will still receive the same pay. Even though men are doing the harder jobs and woman are doing the easier ones.
