Jabari Washington 16 June,2024 ISS 305 Black Reading Diary Module 3 Question 3 The poll that I am researching is taking a look into how the pandemic learning loss and the teacher shortage are the biggest problems in schools currently. This poll was carried out by The Washington Post-Schar School poll. This poll was taken from April 19-29 2024 and was given to the parents of students in the DMV area. The poll can be found at https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2024/05/28/dc-area-poll-schools-learning-loss-teach ers/ . The methodology of the poll was sampling school kid parents from the local area. From looking at the poll and the questions I do not believe that there is any bias. The reason that I say that is because not only did they give a poll with non-biased answers they also provided a follow-up poll asking how they would rate their kids' schools. Doing this shows a more authentic line of questioning and shows that their responses are not jaded and come from people who like the school community and want to see it improve. One way that the poll question could have been changed to have bad wording and bias is by giving fewer options to choose from in the poll. Another thing that was done right was not giving the person the categories of major, minor, and not a problem making it harder and forcing parents to pick one problem that is above the rest instead of categorizing them by importance. I do believe that this poll is valid because it has the ability to sample from multiple regions and get consistent results in these different areas. This
poll in my opinion is an example of sample representation because if you were to go around the country asking the same questions I would believe that there would be similar answers to what was given in this poll because due to the significant events listed in the poll it would be a common denominator in answers.
