Module Seven Question 1 Approach the clips you have seen from a social scientific perspective. What aspects of art therapy would interest a professional in each of the following fields? Psychology : Psychologists study how artmaking facilitates emotional expression, self-awareness, and insight. Examining techniques like color and composition gives insights into an individual's psychological state. Artmaking provides a safe space for personal growth and healing. Sociology : Sociologists may be interested in examining how art therapy practices challenge or reinforce societal norms and beliefs about art, mental health, and well-being. Anthropology : Anthropologists may examine how art therapy engages with cultural symbols, aesthetics, and techniques, exploring the relationship between art, culture, and the therapeutic process. Module Seven Question 2 Use the social science perspective to propose a few explanations as to why you might find graffiti in a society. Choose a social science principle (norms, roles, institutions, and beliefs and values) and describe how these might influence the appearance of graffiti in a society. Describe how the appearance of graffiti in a society might influence the people living there. The presence of graffiti can have a significant impact on the people living in each society. In many cases, graffiti is used negatively, even if the result may be visually appealing. Gangs often use graffiti to mark public spaces as their own or to send warnings to rival groups. From a social science perspective, this issue is closely aligned with the concept of norms. Many individuals who live in these communities may need to be made aware of the sense of urban decay that surrounds them, which can lead to a negative perception of the overall state of the community. Module Seven Question 3 Channel your thought process before taking this course and before adopting a social science perspective. Through what type of lens would you have viewed graffiti before taking this course? How would this have influenced how you thought about graffiti? How do these two reactions compare? Has your understanding of social science principles changed the way you perceive graffiti in society? If so, how? If your perspective on a different issue (other than graffiti) has changed after adopting
the social science perspective, feel free to write about this issue instead! Before taking this course, I indeed look at addiction from a different lens. Before, I had negatively looked at addiction and a choice that people made because they were weak- minded.
