Great post this week. Using your supervisor as a sounding board is an excellent idea. Utilizing NASW's Best Practice Standards in Social Work Supervision (2013) as a guide to using supervision, it states that supervisors play a pivotal role in the growth and development of supervisees through the thinking and behaviors the supervisor emulates. Developing an action plan with your supervisor can help discover the potential risks of different scenarios you are trying to navigate (NASW, n.d.). I used my supervisor to help me navigate the ethical dilemma I wrote about in dealing with the legalities of sharing the personal information of a young adult who has a developmental disability. Supervisors can instill the knowledge and experiences they have gone through to help guide the creation of an action plan. In my opinion, learning from their wisdom is a more practical way to learn.
