Researchers were interested to know if the impact of information regarding homicide and capital punishment actually had an impact on people’s views of the use of capital punishment. Before the information session, 30 subjects were interviewed regarding their views on capital punishment, and given a specific case example. Each subject answered 20 questions, all on a scale of 1 to 5, with 5 representing that capital punishment should be used in this particular case —the 20 variables were then added together to get a score ranging from 20 to 100. After the information session (which consisted of an informative film), each subject was asked the same set of 20 questions and another index ranging from 20 to 100 was created.
