Only provide the information requested. Your discussion should be based on the topic being covered. Reminder: The dataset for age has only one variable: Age, for the offender’s age when released from conviction for their latest offence (either released from jail/prison, or if they did not serve custodial time, it’s when they started probation or some form of community supervision). Consider this dataset a population of all offenders in the country of Helmustonia, for the year 2019. 1. For a research project, you have been given a contract by the government of Helmustonia. They know from Stats Canada that the average population of Canadian adults is 39.2 years old. You are to answer the question: Does that average apply to Helmustonia offenders as well? Use the dataset “Offender age” to answer this question. (12 marks) 1
Open “Offender age.sav” in SPSS and perform the appropriate analysis to answer the questions. a. State the null and alternative hypothesis (2 marks). b. Do Helmustonia offenders have an average age of 39.2? Test at α (p criterion) .05. Be sure to explain your answer. (5 marks) c. What is the effect size? How would you characterize it? (e.g., small, moderate, large…). (2 marks) d. Generate (and include in your assignment) a histogram for age , including a normal curve. Do these data look normal to you such that these tests can be undertaken using statistics such as the mean and standard deviation? (3 marks) 2. Canada wants to see if their census data suggests that Canadians are different than EU citizens (12 marks) Open the GSS-2014-Victimization data in SPSS and perform the appropriate analyses to answer the questions below. a. (5 marks) c. What is the effect size? How would you characterize it? (e.g., small, moderate, large…). (2 marks) d.
