MACROSYSTEM CASE STUDY: KEVIN Leanna Borunda Capella University ED 5430 Cindy Washington 03.04.2023
MACROSYSTEM CASE STUDY: KEVIN In this paper I will be presenting the case study and covering all aspects of the case relating to the macrosystem ecological system theory. Kevin is a three-year-old boy with three siblings aged sixteen, twelve, and seven years old. The children's parents are not together anymore, mom is in and out of their lives. She is a drug user and continues to promise that she will come see them or get her life together, but it never happens. The four siblings live with their grandma. Kevin is enrolled in a head start program, he has developed behavior problems, self- harms, and has tried to hurt the other children in his class. Grandma is trying to get him help but she does not have temporary custody or rights to make educational ,mental health ,or medical decisions for him so to get the help he needs. The Head Start agency is trying their best to offer support to the teacher and ideas to help the child. The agency does this in a way of not overstepping the boundaries of the law that go into effect when there is no permission from mom. This is aligned with the government and political effect that I wrote about in my discussion about, I discussed how the government has risen prices , how there is a high number of lost jobs ,how public assistance is only available for families that make close to nothing and how the government has nothing for families who are struggling with holding jobs. The head start program is the kind of organization that helps children and their families who are low income, their parents are separated and only have one parent to support them , or families who cannot afford essentials like food, water , etc. This program has four basic
MACROSYSTEM CASE STUDY: KEVIN components that are highlighted when providing education and care to students and their families. The basic components are: Providing an early learning coaching to staff and teachers across program options and settings Establishing Individual plans of wellness that implement healthy developments for every child. Ensuring that a parent partnership process promotes the understanding of a child's progress, provides support, and shows learning and leadership Providing constant communication with schools and other programs receiving Head Start and Early Head Start children, exchanging information about children and the programs to align services for early learning, health, and family engagement Emotions are a big factor in children's development and are a major way they express, react and comfort themselves. According to (Cartagena,N(2021)“Emotions are stepping–stones to actions. These actions include coping, resisting, and constructing. Emotion regulation is important to resilience, because emotions contribute to one’s ability to perform the actions that are constitutive of resilient behavior. Third, emotions play a central role in human social relations.” This quote from the article presented above shows that emotions play a huge factor in how people process situations and learn to regulate their feelings and begin to heal. In Kevin's case he has developed problems due to his family lifestyle being unstable, he is acting out and trying to hurt other children because he feels like other kids should suffer like he does. Most parents do not realize how their actions affect the child's behavior and development. In a macrosystem ecological system there are many components that go into working on a case. This case has many mentors and educators helping to provide resources to Kevin and his family. The

MACROSYSTEM CASE STUDY: KEVIN first step is to get his mom some help and try to get her to be there for her children. Next step is to help the grandma get full custody to ensure she can get the best care and help her grandchildren to the fullest ability. And the final step is to get Kevin and his siblings help in all aspects from therapy sessions to the best education possible. In conclusion the educators and mentors in the head start program have created a plan to help ensure that Kevin and his family get the best help and resources provided to them as soon as possible. The best possible option is to get Kevin’s grandma to get full custody of the children. Kevin’s case needs to be taken seriously to ensure that he does not hurt children anymore and learns to cope with the trauma that his mother has caused.
