USE OF PRAYER AND SCRIPTURE 2
Summary
Cognitive-behavior therapy (CBT) is a short-term method of behavioral therapy. It assists individuals with solving problems. Cognitive-behavior therapy identifies the connection between feelings, beliefs, behaviors, and thoughts. In this article, Siang-Yang Tan explains how the use of prayer is used in conjunction with
cognitive-behavioral therapy to establish inward healing by using a Christian approach (Tan, 2007). Tan also discusses the history of behavioral therapy, in addition to providing an overview of the eight key components of the Christian method to cognitive-behavior therapy. He explains the integration of both prayer and scripture with cognitive behavior therapy. This article also explains the assessment process, which is important to using Christianity with cognitive behavior therapy (Tan, 2007). Tan also provides seven stages to healing with prayer but also states that this approach may not work for individuals who are seriously traumatized.
