Study Questions- Week 5
Chapter 13
1.
Why did Paul write Romans?
Paul wrote the letter to the Romans to introduce himself and his message to the Roman
church, to explain the gospel, to address Jewish and Gentile relations, to encourage support for his missionary work, and to provide pastoral guidance.
2.
When Paul says in Romans 3:23 that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” whom does he have in mind when referring to “all”?
Paul was referring to all human beings, both Jews and Gentiles.
Chapter 14
1.
What is the central theological theme in Ephesians?
The theological themes are the Lordship of Christ and the Church. 2.
What is the occasion and purpose of Ephesians?
"They see Ephesians emphasizing cosmic reconciliation in Christ and stressing the need for (1) unity in the church, (2) a distinctive Christian ethic, and (3) vigilance in spiritual warfare." (Köstenberger, Kellum, & Quarles, n.d.)
Ephesians is represented by a glimpse of Paul’s thought while he was under house arrest in Rome. 3.
What is the “Colossian heresy” and how does it relate to the occasion of Colossians?
The Colossian heresy is a false teaching. It relates to the occasion of Colossians because it addresses issues in the church and wanted believers to be transformed through Jesus. That cannot occur with false teachings. 4.
What are the three main points that Paul made in Colossians?
“Most would acknowledge that Paul made at least three main points in Colossians: (1)" all the fullness dwells in the preeminent Christ (1:15–20); (2) believers are complete in Christ (2:10); and thus (3) they should seek to know more of Christ in his fullness by seeking the things above where he dwells, not the things on the earth (3:1–2)." (Köstenberger, Kellum, & Quarles, n.d.)
