1. State and summarize one story that only Luke has. Explain how it serves the major theme of Luke’s gospel (please state and explain the theme it serves, and show how the story serves the theme.) For full credit, there must be accurate textual references. (6 points) i. STORY The unique parable found in Luke 10:25-37 which is parable of the Good Samaritan. Jesus was preaching and a lawyer asked him about inheriting eternal life by showing love to our neighbor, Jesus explains to him by telling this parable. A Jew was making his way from Jerusalem to Jericho. Robbers ambushed him as he was travelling. He was left badly wounded by the side of the road after being robbed and brutally beaten. A priest was passing by on the same road and noticed this injured man. The priest moved to the opposite side of the road. He didn't give the man any help as he left. Later, a Levite
—
descendants of Levi, who served as Jewish priest's assistants
—
also traveled the same route. Like the priest, he noticed this wounded man but did nothing to help him. The man remained on the roadside, dying. Then a Samaritan (group of people who were disliked by the Jewish community) saw and pitied this injured man, decided to bandage his wounds, took the man to an inn, and paid all the inn expenses and fees for his treatment/ recovery. Jesus told the lawyer that this is the true definition of a neighbor and told the lawyer to go and do likewise.
5 ii. THEME Love our neighbors as ourselves which means to serve and value everyone the same regardless of their cultural backgrounds, nationality, status, race, even our enemies, and mere strangers. iii. HOW THE STORY SERVES THE THEME The Good Samaritan narrative from the Bible serves as an example of how to "love our neighbors as ourselves." Our affection for neighbors is put to the ultimate test when individuals such as the man attacked by robbers on the road need it the most. Instead of the Priest and Levite that completely ignored their neighbor, Jesus tells us to emulate the Good Samaritan, lending a hand to those in need. 2
. a. What is the “fulfillment citation”

”
. Matthew continues his explanation by citing a passage from the scripture referencing that Jesus is the hope and redeemer of the Jewish people. b
. What is the role of the “fulfillment citation” in Matthew’s Gospel? (3 points) Matthew explicitly emphasizes that Jesus is the fulfillment of the Jewish Scriptures and the long expected Messiah of the Jews. Matthew explains that Jesus’
existence and ministry also fulfills the prophesies in the Old Testament. 3. a
. Which of the G
ospel writer’s work is divided into two volumes? (1 points)
.........................................
Luke b.
Identify the two volumes (2 points)………………………………………………….
Luke and Acts
6 Section D. OPTIONAL 4. Explain the one significant difference between Matthew’s account of the triumphal entry into Jerusalem and that of the other three Gospel writers. Explain the reason for the difference. Matthew mentions that there is both a donkey and a colt which is not mentioned in the other Gospels. This shows that Jesus claims his rightful place as the prophesied Messiah who is welcomed in peace, humility, and honor of his people.
